The administration of US President Donald Trump has pledged its full support towards ending the Russia-Ukraine war. Russia and Ukraine's leaders held talks in Istanbul on Friday and struck a prisoner exchange deal.
Tammy Bruce, US State Department’s Spokesperson says Trump’s administration salutes the prisoners exchange agreement. The US President Trump has called for an immediate ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
“Secretary Rubio welcomed the prisoner exchange agreement reached during the May 16 Ukraine-Russia talks in Istanbul and delivered President Trump’s strong message: the United States is committed to achieving a lasting end to the Russia-Ukraine war,” says Tammy.
The president was quoted on X (formerly known as Twitter) as saying he would call Russia's President Vladimir Putin on Monday to discuss a ceasefire with him.
On 24th February 2025, a day that marked three years of war between Russia and Ukraine, a total of 12,605 civilians had already been killed within three years, over 29,178 wounded, and millions displaced, according to the United Nations.
The UN urged its member states and international organisations to support peace between Russia and Ukraine.
