The United States government has warned its citizens residing abroad to be vigilant as the conflict between Iran and Israel escalates.
A press release from the U.S. Department of State indicates that there is a potential risk for U.S. citizens due to closed airspace in the Middle East and the raging war between Iran and Israel.
“The conflict between Israel and Iran has resulted in disruptions to travel and periodic closure of airspace across the Middle East. There is the potential for demonstrations against U.S citizens and interests abroad,” the statement partly reads.
The U.S recommends that its citizens review travel advisories, information, and security alerts before planning their travel.
Earlier, the US President Donald Trump communicated that a peace agreement should be reached within two weeks by Israel and Iran; otherwise, the U.S. would take action against Iran to dismantle its nuclear capabilities.
On Saturday, Trump declared that the U.S. had eliminated three significant sites associated with Iran's nuclear program and would persist in targeting them. However, Iran asserts that it relocated their missiles and facilities in anticipation of the U.S. attack.
Critics have long accused the U.S. of backing Israel. Last month, the U.S. blocked a United Nations Security Council resolution intended to halt the fighting in Gaza and facilitate humanitarian access.
The U.S. contended that the resolution lacked provisions for the release of Israeli hostages in Gaza and did not permit Israel to protect itself. Various organisations, including the UN, are urging a ceasefire in the conflict between Israel and Iran.
In contrast, Russia has expressed a willingness to intervene in the war if the U.S. continues its aggressive stance against Iran.
