The United States has imposed visa restrictions on owners of and officials working for some travel agencies in India. The US government accuses the officials of intentionally facilitating illegal immigration to the US.
The US Department of State’s Spokesperson, Tammy Bruce tasks foreign nationals to hold accountable the violators of the laws of the United States.
“Our immigration policy aims not only to inform foreign nationals about the dangers of illegal immigration to the United States but also to hold accountable individuals who violate our laws, including facilitators of illegal immigration,” says Bruce.
On January 20, 2025, the US President Donald Trump signed an executive order for the deportation of illegal immigrants to their home countries, including those who escaped tyranny in their home countries.
He said their immigration to America was a violation of America’s “longstanding federal laws.” Hundreds of immigrants were arrested and deported to their countries of origin.
Between 2009 and 2024, 15,564 Indians were deported from the US to India as a result of illegal immigration. There are so far 388 Indians deported from the US to India since January 2025.
